Understanding How and When to Use Healthcare
Healthcare can be confusing, but it doesn’t have to be.
A new public education campaign is launching this fall in the easternmost part of Contra Costa to help people better understand how, when and where to get the care they need.

A Community-Led Effort to Improve Health Literacy
The Healthcare Literacy Council of Contra Costa County is uniting local leaders and organizations to help the community, particularly those with Medicare and Medi-Cal, use their healthcare with confidence.

Formed by County Supervisor Diane Burgis in partnership with Kaiser Permanente, Contra Costa Health and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, the Council is focused on:

Empowering people to make informed decisions about their care

Reducing stress and delays in overburdened emergency rooms

Improving overall community health and well-being
Coming Fall 2025
The campaign launching this fall will help the community understand how to make the most of their health benefits through bilingual resources, in-person workshops, advertising and community outreach.
The pilot will roll out in Antioch, Bethel Island, Brentwood, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen and Oakley, with plans to expand countywide in the years to come.
Stay tuned for updates and opportunities to get involved.
